Support for Congestion After Swimming in a Lake

Lakes and ponds are natural bodies of water - so why are they causing communications for kids?  Sadly, lake water isn’t what it used to be. Most inland lakes have been treated with a cocktail of chemicals and herbicides. Plus, most water samples show high levels of glyphosate pollution. Whenever there is more toxicity, there’s a higher need for bacteria and parasites. Nature always attempts to rebalance.

What does congestion after swimming mean

Congestion after swimming is the body’s defense system saying “SYSTEM OVERLOAD”.  Ultimately, this is an ask to go deeper with microbiome support and mineral balancing. However, here’s how you can allow your kiddo to be a kid and play in the water AND lessen the intensity of symptoms.

Offer support when swimming

The day of swimming offers vitamin C, natural histamine support (Nature’s Sunshine Histablock), and a binder. Cell Core’s HM-ET binder is brilliant at mopping up herbicides, insecticides, pesticides - especially glyphosate! Immediately after swimming (or taking breaks from swimming), offer a capsule or two of high potency protease like Enzymedica enzyme defense. This protocol also works great if your kiddo is prone to after-swimming hives!

At home support:

Once home from swimming, if your kiddo is old enough and up for it, a nasal rinse is one of the fastest ways to cleanse the nasal passages. Either an old fashioned neti pot or using a system like Navage is amazing. You can then offer more histamine support if needed and additional binder. If symptoms are intensifying, offer up more protease.

A dirt bath is a wonderful way to further support the body. Here’s the easy recipe:

Simply add ¼ to ½ cup baking soda and open up the 3 to 5 HM-ET capsules and add to the bath.

If you have city water, neutralize the chlorine with 1000mg of vitamin c powder.

Avoidance is not the answer

As with all things, the invitation is always to get curious about your child’s symptoms, understand their unique weaknesses. When there’s a pattern at play, like “My child always gets congested when they swim” the answer isn’t to NOT let them swim. True resiliency isn’t avoided. The answer is to support their body so the symptoms are way less, and do the bigger work to strengthen the terrain (gut health/minerals) when it aligns.
