There’s so much fear in the world about acute illness. But living in fear serves no one. And honestly, fear just weakens the immune system further.

Instead of fearing encounters with toxins, germs or other pathogens, I simply do my best to avoid what I can and work to enhance my child’s resilience.

This means embracing REAL prevention and nourishing his body with good things like real food, herbs, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It even means embracing (yes E M B R A C I N G) germs and dirt to encourage a more diverse microbiome. This gives him a body that is well-prepared when faced with the inevitable challenges of growing up.

When our children are strong, their cells naturally flush the nasty things out. This built-in mechanism keeps the bad guys from accumulating in the body and overloading the system. And really, a simple way of understanding chronic dis-ease is to see it as a system overload (mineral depletion combined with toxic overload — AKA: not enough of the good and too much of the bad).

It should never be your desire to avoid minor (acute) illnesses. Instead, welcome them (without a prescription or over-the-counter medication) and know that they are your child’s opportunities to flex their immunity muscles AND build resilience. Minor illnesses provide priceless opportunities for your child’s body to develop the skills necessary for lifelong health.

The best nourishing foods are vegetable broth or bone broth, herbal infusions, coconut water and homemade herb-infused popsicles. Plus, work in supplements like vitamins, herbs, essential oils and homeopathy — as needed. Be careful to not overdo it, but just give gentle love to help the body find balance.

Dr. Quiet

In order to heal, we need to be in a healing state, a relaxed state, which means our parasympathetic nervous system is activated.

Even the TV can be too much stimulation for real healing. Try and create an environment that is truly peaceful to give the body time to repair and renew itself.
