This herb is mildly minty in flavor. Because it is the highest quality echinacea (loaded with all the lovely healing constituents including alkylamides), you may experience a tongue-tingling sensation. Not only is this an excellent FEMfusion booster, but also pairs well with lemongrass, in both teas and soups.

Valerian root contains essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, EFA's, beta-carotene and B vitamins. The roots and rhizomes of valerian have a curious odor and a complex flavor profile that can be described as musky, earthy and bitter. This odor is caused by volatile, medicinal compounds present in the root. Because it is a root, you would prepare this as a decoction instead of an infusion.

To prepare a single serving, add 1 tablespoon of valerian root to 1 quart water, bring to a boil and then turn down and simmer and cover for 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool 10-15 min and then strain.  Pour the decoction over ¼ of a cup of FEMfusion blend and infuse 4-12 hours, as usual. 

BONUS: This decoction can be added to a bath or foot bath to aid in relaxation and promote sleep. Add lavender oil to enhance benefits.

Fennel is a flowering plant in the carrot family. It is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. It has a delightful, mild and sweet anise-like flavor. Fennel has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is beneficial for digestion by reducing gas. It’s high in potassium, calcium and magnesium, which can help prevent heart disease. Fennel is also good for lactation as it contains bioactive compounds that may increase prolactin levels which stimulate mammary gland growth and promote milk flow.

It’s high in vitamins A and C, calcium, zinc and iron. Integral to Ayurvedic health practices, it is thought to help the body respond to stress and restore normal function.

Chamomile is a small flower in the daisy family. It’s high in calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese, zinc and Vitamin A. It’s also a great source of antioxidants. Chamomile is a nervine herb and is best known for its ability to calm the nervous system. In other words, not only is it a nourishing boost, but it also helps the mind and body relax. Chamomile also offers indigestion relief, acts as a sleep aid and it’s wonderful for the skin and hair (because of its mineral load).

Chamomile tastes very mild and has a gentle flowery taste.

If you want to experience the true calming effects of chamomile, simply take a quarter cup of  your chamomile, add it to a one-quart jar and let it steep for at least four hours. You can then gently re-heat and enjoy a cup before bed. This is the perfect tea party to have at night with your kiddos, too!

Meadowsweet contains many compounds that may have beneficial properties, including flavonoids, ellagitannins and salicylic acid. These compounds have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. This is why the traditional use of this delicate herb is in treating inflammatory communications.

If you love Thai cooking, you may be familiar with this plant. Lemongrass has long leaves that are similar to those of seagrasses with a sweet, sharp citrus scent.

Star anise is rich in vitamins A and C, as well as various B-complex vitamins like B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6. It also contains several important minerals like potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, and copper, along with smaller amounts of manganese, zinc and phosphorus.

Star anise offers benefits like antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, traditionally used in teas for respiratory communications, digestion and immunity support, thanks to compounds like shikimic acid.

Chickweed is a nutritious, edible green used raw in salads or lightly cooked as a spinach substitute. It has a mild, sweet flavor and is rich in vitamins A and C, minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc and magnesium and antioxidants, making it a popular restorative wild food.
