Valerian root contains essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, EFA's, beta-carotene and B vitamins. The roots and rhizomes of valerian have a curious odor and a complex flavor profile that can be described as musky, earthy and bitter. This odor is caused by volatile, medicinal compounds present in the root. Because it is a root, you would prepare this as a decoction instead of an infusion.

To prepare a single serving, add 1 tablespoon of valerian root to 1 quart water, bring to a boil and then turn down and simmer and cover for 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool 10-15 min and then strain.  Pour the decoction over ¼ of a cup of FEMfusion blend and infuse 4-12 hours, as usual. 

BONUS: This decoction can be added to a bath or foot bath to aid in relaxation and promote sleep. Add lavender oil to enhance benefits.

Fennel is a flowering plant in the carrot family. It is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. It has a delightful, mild and sweet anise-like flavor.
